Paris Mountain DH was Beautifully Run & Designed!

Sunday Sept 21st, Paris Mtn State Park, Greenville, SC.
Rusty Sprocket Promotions teamed up with Cecil Linder to put on a fantastic downhill event. Over 80 racers showed up bright & early to test run the course for the first run @ noon. This course was burly enough that long travel & body armor were appropriate.
BioWheels/Deltec Racing was represented by Matt Johnson & Greg Nelson. Greg established a great time on his 1st run, breaking the 2 minute barrier, which only 4 other riders accomplished. Johnson did his best, having removed his body armor & fullface helmet as they ‘just didn’t feel right’. Johnson’s best effort earned him 15th out of 22, while his Greg made the podium with a solid 3rd Place. Good show Greg!
The day was won by pro racer Garrett Beytagh, who established his winning position with an impressive 1:49, only to smash his shoulder, hard, on a tree at the beginnning of his 2nd run. He missed this podium shot. We hope he’ll be fine.
Thanks to all the folks that made this happen! BioWheels is proud to be part of this kind of fun! Full results & more pictures can be found here, http://www.parismountaindh.com
2008 Off-Road Assault on Mt Mitchell was a Burner!
August 1, 2008 on 2:43 pm | In Mountain Bike Racing, BW/Deltec Mtn Squad | No CommentsWhat a hot freakin’ day.
400 riders from all over the U.S. converged on Old Fort, NC. The weather was in the 90’s with high humidity all day long. Thanks to the ruthless sun & 11,000 vertical feet of climbing, attrition rates were near 20%! Nonetheless, a new course record was set by Asheville’s favorite son, Sam Koerber. The punk broke the 5 hour mark, and took home almost $1000 and the largest trophy ever.
The overall woman’s champion was BioWheels/Deltec Homes’ Karen Masson. She crushed ton’s of guys & left the women daydreaming. Also in the BWR jersey, Jeremy Hargroves was the 10th person across the line. Jeremy gave BWR our 1st top-10 overall finish in this classic eastern mountian event.
BioWheels has been a long-time supporter & participant in this event. We had a large team representation, with 11 BWR Deltec Homes jerseys to finish the grueling course, and only one DNF.
For the 5th year, BioWheels ran the critical BR Parkway checkpoint at the top of the hateful, yet beautiful, Curtis Creek Road. Certainly many lives were saved by the the vlounteers at all of the 6 checkpoints.
Congratulations to all the fantastic souls that gave a big part of themselves to the massive Black Mountains.
Thanks to Todd Branham for providing us such a bittersweet day, lets do it again!

12 Hours of Tsali was Beautiful!
May 19, 2008 on 4:03 pm | In Mountain Bike Racing, BW/Deltec Mtn Squad | No CommentsSunshine, a stiff breeze & blue skies were the order of the day at the 2008 12- Hours of Tsali. Even with so many events on the same day, there was a great turnout of speed-seekers. Any bike racers dream of perfect trail conditions, but few places boast such beauty & long rippin’ trails. Some of the fastest men were averaging a blistering 16 -ph on the course. It was the driest it has ever been for this race.
BioWheels-Deltec organized 2 teams & 3 solo riders. Dave Simpson & Wes Miller
both poured it all day long in their first solo efforts of that magnitude. The hotly-contested Men’s Open Money category turned into a Pro race, with 7 of the 10 podiumed riders holding NORBA Pro licences. Nonetheless, Jeremy Hargrove, Dennis Helton, Matt Johnson & Dave Bishop hammered out 44-47 minute laps for 12 hours. They came up only 20-seconds short of 3rd! An exciting heartbreaker, indeed.
The real story from the BioWheels squad were the Women. Kristi Sanborn has been gaining experience & confidence in her riding over the past few years. She has really stepped it lately. She is learning that she can hammer through the pain & just keep going. Kristi raced to 2nd on the podium in the 12 Hour solo, got the money, and the I-9 raffle wheels!
Our womens’ 4-person team road exclusively on single speeds. Lela Stephens,
Kassi Day, Becky Bashton & Jane Burlew showed their strength with a crash- & technical-free race. The spun their way to 3rd on the podium. Around the campfire they all agreed that they enjoyed the simplicity of the ride, but each knew the damage they could have do to the competiton if they had big gears! Follow this picture of the ladies to an ever-growing photo archive of the event.
There is nothing like running a team camp with men & women working together, & inspiring eachother. It is so good to have these great friends!
“Thank you!” to Terri & Dave Berger for another great Gone Riding event. Thanks to Deltec Homes, French Broad Brewing Company & Dr. Dru Aquilar for their ongoing support of BioWheels Racing!
