Wheel Ride For Food

5/31/08

This year a new metric century came to life in Asheville.  The ride was sponsored by many local businesses and raised money for the Meals on Wheels organization.  With the Roan Groan being one week away, several riders on the team were looking to fine tune their form, stick around town for the weekend, and support a good cause.  So we had some great representation from the team.  Representing BioWheels-Deltec Road were: Travis Fender, Mike Small, Jason Smith, Chad Schoenhauer, Andy Pooser, Chris Emory, and myself.  Also making a very strong appearance was BioWheels shop owner Eric Krause.

The ride started at 8:30 am.  After rolling out of Carrier Park and along the French Broad river, we turned left and began to head for Marshall.  Over the rolling terrain of the next 30 miles the field was thinned down to the Deltec Road Team, Eric, and 4 others.  When we hit the Ox Creek climb we could all feel the heat and humidity.  The team broke up a bit on the climb, but came together at the base of Town Mtn.  I was chasing hard and got back to the front just as the others hit the river.  It felt great to roll back into Carrier Park in the front group of 5, with all of us wearing the same jersey.

We watched the other riders trickle into the park as they finished.  Everyone was happy to finish and grab there post ride meal.  The food and drinks provided were great.  Good job Lela!  I’m sure this event will grow for next year.

Next week- Roan Groan…
