BWR’s Chris Emory Takes 2nd at Salisbury RR
August 25, 2007 on 12:14 pm | In Road Racing |I rode down to Salibury with Nate on Saturday and rode the hotter’n hell 68 mile Rock Hill RR resulting in a second place finish (CAT 3). During the race I only drank 3 bottles which resulted in 3 hours after the race before I had to take a leak; even after 5 beers, 3 gatorades, 2 cheerwines, and 2 bottles of water.
Bodily functions aside it was a nice course mostly on newly paved roads allowing high speeds. My race was 5 laps and I actually sat for 2 laps before I began to attack. I was in a 3 man break on the third lap which was being dangled 1/4 mile from the peloton but on the next lap I broke with a strong group that the pack chased furiously until we were ran down while in a lull. On the final lap two groups of two were allowed to get to far up the road for my likeing and I threw in a huge effort up a small hill passing the front of the peloton at 30mph and increasing speed as the road leveled out. The pack chased hard but only 3 guys continued to chase. I slowed a bit and when they got on I picked up the pace and we began rotating until we picked off the next two groups.
Mostly everyone worked as we rotated with a few taking breaks but when we neared the finish I was stuck up front as everyone was attempting to sit on a single guy who was a TT champ I believe. On the final road there were two risors and I planned to go on the final one but was confused as to where I was and ended up jumping on the first. Good thing was nobody was covering my wheel and I jumped hard and fast especially since I thought I was down to 1/2 mile to go instead of a mile but I was able to hold all but one off who charged past in the last 50 meters after sitting on the chase pack.- Chris Emory
