Roan Groan Road Race Elizabethton, TN

If you like to climb this is a good one. The Pro,1,2,3 field completes a 50 something mile course with lots of big rollers and a 6 mile finishing climb. This year’s field was about 65 racers. Like always this race is hot and fast and usually stays together until the finishing climb. The BioWheels Cat 3 field was Andy Pooser and myself- Mike J  .  As soon as we hit the grade to the finish the group dwindled to 30 and then people started popping all the way up the mountain. This being a mixed field the pace was high with several Cat 1 climbers setting a blistering pace. The BioWheels squad was able to squeak out a 25th place overall and an 8th place in the Cat 3 field.  The finish to the race is at Carvers Gap which I believe is around 5,000 feet in elevation and a great finish with lots of spectators and cool temps. Maybe next year we can take a larger group and try to get a higher place in the overall.
