Assault on the Carolinas, Brevard NC
March 2, 2007 on 11:52 am | In Road Racing |Great day for a ride with temps in the 40’s at start. Many Biowheels Jerseys with Eric, Daniel, Zach, Jeremey. The group of 300 or more started to break up over the beautiful route until we got to the base of Ceasers Head climb a 5-6 mile climb with I believe a 6% gradient. After the first mile the group dropped to about 8 with a Tandem of Andy Applegate up ahead because of a fast start on the flats at about around 35 MPH. I believe Zach was ahead on an early break trying to test his race fitness but he eventually succumbed to the hard effort when he hit Ceasers Head. Nice effort!
The group attacked around the half way point up the climb with Paul Cammerer of Charleston attacking first with Local hairy legged rider Fred Stichel. I could not match his acceleration so just stayed tempo until the top of the climb staying in the fourth position (excluding Applegate) After the fast descent we rolled for 10 miles or so on flats until the little kicker at the end. The little hill allowed me to pull away from some dead weight (Sycamore Cycles dude) and come in 5th overall. Not a bad training ride for early in the season. Great Biowheels turnout!
