I am in the midst of my final preparation for The Great Divide Race. I can easily understand why most people prepare for this ride a year in advance. I decided that I was going to attempt the ride on May 7, 2005 when Joy and I were hanging out at the lake. Thanks to Matt and Sarah who were taking a break from the Appalachian Trail that weekend, their stories and encouragement to take on an adventure and stop working helped me to make that final decision. The worst part was yet to come, which was telling my boss that I needed a month off work. I want to thank Kevin and Bronce at Pesterfield Engineering and Surveying www.pcels.com for being so understanding of the attempt to ride my bike across the country. After getting the “not okay” from Kevin, I started to prepare.
